ProVM reference

ProVM is the virtual machine offer that runs on Doprax’s own hardware. It is the provider marked Recommended on the Create Virtual Machine page. The other providers on that page are other companies’ clouds; they are compared on Providers and locations.

This page is the reference for ProVM. To create one, follow Create your first virtual machine.

There are two tiers with the same five sizes. The tables come from the platform’s catalogue.

The Turbo plans are on their own tab of the create page, which describes them as “Advance-gen CPU · up to 3 Gbps networking”.

Prices are in US dollars. The price per hour is the monthly price divided by 720.

A ProVM location is a country. You do not choose a city or a data centre.

System Versions
Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04
Debian 12
AlmaLinux 9
Rocky Linux 10
Fedora 41
MikroTik CHR 7.17

MikroTik is offered on ProVM only. Instead of an operating system you can also start a new VM from a snapshot that you took of a ProVM. A snapshot can only be used at the provider it was taken on.

To put another system on an existing VM, use Rebuild. It replaces the disk, so the data on it is lost.

  • Every ProVM gets one public IPv4 address and one public IPv6 address of its own. Both are shown at the top of the VM’s page and on its Access tab.
  • You can add up to 5 additional IPv4 addresses to a VM, on the Network tab with Add IP. Each costs $1 once for setup and $1 a month, charged by the hour while it is attached. Adding one reboots the VM. See Additional IPs.
  • You cannot change the primary IP address of a ProVM. IP change exists only on Hetzner.

All ports are open on ProVM. A service is reachable on any port it listens on, unless a firewall inside your VM blocks it.

Traffic is free on every ProVM plan, in both directions. The create page shows Free under Outbound traffic and Inbound traffic, and the Network tab of a ProVM shows Unlimited. ProVM traffic is not measured for billing, so there is no charge for it at any volume.

Action Where Notes
Start, Stop, Reboot Buttons on the VM’s page Stop acts at once, without a confirmation
Hard stop Button on the VM’s page A forced power-off, for a VM that does not react to Stop. ProVM only
Terminal Button on the VM’s page A shell in your browser
Rebuild Button on the VM’s page A new operating system or a snapshot on the same VM. Destroys the disk’s data
Snapshot Snapshots tab $0.20 per snapshot, and $0.20 per GB per month while you keep it
Resize Resize tab Another ProVM plan, same IP, data kept. ProVM only
Add IP Network tab Up to 5 additional IPv4 addresses. ProVM only
Add domain Domains tab Point your own domain at the VM
Delete Button on the VM’s page Cannot be undone

Two things ProVM does not have: rescue mode (Hetzner and OVH only) and IP change (Hetzner only).

  • A resize moves the VM to another plan of the same tier: Standard to Standard, Turbo to Turbo.
  • The disk can only grow. Plans with a smaller disk than the current one are not offered.
  • The VM is stopped, changed and started again. The dashboard gives about 60 to 90 seconds for the reboot.
  • The IP addresses and the data stay.

See Resize a VM.

  • By the hour, from your credit. A ProVM is charged for the time it exists, at its monthly price divided by 720 per hour. A VM you delete is charged up to the moment you delete it.
  • A stopped VM costs the same as a running one. Its disk and its IP addresses stay reserved for you. Only deleting the VM ends the charge.
  • Snapshots and additional IPs are charged separately, at the prices above.
  • When your credit reaches zero, your VMs are stopped and then frozen. See When your credit runs low.

What you need on your account before you can create one is on What a VM costs.

An account can have 10 virtual machines by default, across all providers. The number for your account is under Account, Security, with Request quota increase next to it.
