When your credit runs low
Doprax is prepaid. Your services use up credit hour by hour, and there is no overdraft: when the credit is gone, they stop. This page says exactly what happens and when.
In short
Section titled “In short”| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Credit lasts 7 days or less | We warn you by email and in the dashboard |
| Credit lasts 2 days or less | We warn you again, marked urgent |
| Credit reaches zero | Your services are stopped within about 15 minutes, then frozen |
| You add credit | Frozen services start again by themselves within about 15 minutes |
| Credit stays at zero | Frozen services are deleted by our team after a short time |
How long your credit lasts
Section titled “How long your credit lasts”We work out how many days your credit will last from two numbers:
- Your available balance: your credit, minus what your services have used since the last charge.
- What your services cost per day: the monthly price of every VM and App Space you have, divided by 30, plus recent usage charges such as extra traffic.
A stopped VM counts at its full price, because it is charged at its full price: its disk and IP address stay reserved for you. Only deleting a service ends its cost.
The warnings
Section titled “The warnings”You get an email and a notification in the dashboard when your credit will last 7 days or less, and again at 2 days or less. Both are repeated until you add credit or the balance reaches zero.
At zero
Section titled “At zero”There is no grace period. When your available balance reaches zero:
- Within about 15 minutes, your services are stopped.
- Within about an hour, they are frozen. A frozen VM is shut down. A frozen service is no longer charged, so your balance does not go further below zero while you sort it out.
- You get an email saying your account has no credit left.
While a service is frozen you can delete it, but you cannot use it. Its data is still there.
Getting your services back
Section titled “Getting your services back”Add credit. When your available balance is above $2, your frozen services are started again automatically, usually within 15 minutes. You do not have to start them yourself.
Two things to know:
- Anything still owed is taken from the top-up first. If charges could not be collected before the freeze, they come out of the new credit.
- A top-up that leaves $2 or less does not restart anything.
If you do not add credit
Section titled “If you do not add credit”A service that stays frozen is deleted by our team after a short time. We do not promise a fixed number of hours, so treat a frozen service as something you can lose.
- Deleting cannot be undone. The VM, its disk and its IP address are gone.
- Snapshots are not deleted with the VM. They stay on your account. Snapshots on an account that stays without credit can be removed by our team as well.
If something on a VM matters to you, do not let the balance reach zero: top up when the first warning arrives, or take a snapshot and copy your data somewhere else.
